FAQs
When does MÖRKTOBER start?
MÖRKTOBER starts on October 1 and continues through October 31 each year.
The prompts are released ahead of time in September so you can ponder them before the event begins. You should wait until MÖRKTOBER starts to make your creations and share them.
MÖRKTOBER uses Central European Summer Time (CEST) for start/end times because MÖRK BORG is from Sweden. That’s 6:00 PM ET on September 30 if you are on the US East Coast.
What do we do when it starts?
Each day in October, use the daily prompt to make something for MÖRK BORG. It could be a little text description, some art, or something more complicated. Weapons, classes, items, dungeon things, scrolls, monsters, or anything else is fair game.
Use any format or medium you’d like — art, music, drawing, writing, or a mix!
Can I make things for CY_BORG or Pirate Borg?
Absolutely! It’s your creativity at work, so make what you want. CY_BORG, Pirate Borg, and other Compatible with MÖRK BORG systems are always welcome. Death in Space content is welcome too. Make stuff and have fun.
While the prompts are often themed around a MÖRK BORG dark fantasy setting, they can be adapted for sci-fi, cyberpunk, or anything else. Interpret them as broadly as you want. If the prompt is “tome” that might become a computer terminal.

How do I get started with MÖRK BORG?
The MÖRK BORG Third-Party License allows for the creation of compatible content. Check out Compatible with MÖRK BORG and Compatible with CY_BORG for tips on getting started.
New to MÖRK BORG? No problem! You can get the (no art) core rulebook for free via the MÖRK BORG BARE BONES EDITION. It includes the Rotblack Sludge adventure which inspired me to write ADVENTURE! Make Your Own TTRPG Adventure.
What if I can’t think of what to make?
Check out Tenebrous. It’s a 44-page guide packed with random tables and inspiration to help you make dark and weird things for MÖRK BORG. Available as print or PDF.
Do I have to make something every day?
There is no registration or formal process for MÖRKTOBER. Make things when you feel like it, and don’t worry about missing some days. It’s a creative writing (or art) exercise, so use it the way you feel is best for you.
It’s also OK to not post every day! Some people just post a few times a week if that works better for their work/life schedule.
It’s not a challenge. You don’t get a prize if you do every day. Take breaks when you need them!
What if I miss a day or I’m late with a prompt?
It’s OK to miss days, post things late, and generally ignore any and all deadlines. Some people have finished their prompts months after October ends!
A MÖRKTOBER participant is never late, nor are they early; they finish their prompts precisely when they mean to. 🧙♂️
How do I share my creations?
If you’d like to share what you made, post it to social media with tagged #MÖRKTOBER. You are encouraged to share your work in the #MÖRKTOBER channel on the MÖRK BORG Discord server. Some people do post compilations on itch.io, but it is not required and just personal preference.
There is a custom #MÖRKTOBER Feed for Bluesky.

What about making an itch.io game jam?
While I appreciate the sentiment, I’m actually opposed to the idea of a MÖRKTOBER game jam page (even though I love game jams). The way itch.io jams work, everything is automatically ranked and sorted based on popularity and clicks, and I never want MÖRKTOBER to become a contest or anything like it.
I personally love that MÖRKTOBER creations are dispersed with no clear “place” to post things. That is by design. Embrace the chaos!
Can I sell things I make based on the prompts?
Sure! Feel free to do whatever you want with your creations based on the prompts, including crowdfunding campaigns. Please follow the terms and conditions in the MÖRK BORG Third-Party License. If you are making something for CY_BORG or Pirate Borg, follow any additional requirements of their specific licenses.
In most cases, you should include the third-party license legal text on and/or with your works. This is particularly important if you are publishing compilations on platforms like itch.io and Kickstarter.
Also, if you mention MÖRKTOBER in your project please include the following text: "[Product name] is an independent production by [Author or Publisher] and is not affiliated with Exeunt Press." You must make it clear that your project is not associated with Exeunt Press.
The stylized MÖRKTOBER logo is copyright Exeunt Press and may not be used in your creations or promotional materials.
Is MÖRKTOBER for humans?
Yes. MÖRKTOBER encourages and celebrates human creativity. Use Hinokodo’s HUMAN MADE logo to indicate that your works were created by a human and not a machine.
